All Summer Long

Oh, to be fortunate enough to spend every day of the summer on a beach. First and foremost, a stack of reading material is crucial. There is nothing like diving into an exciting novel as you listen to the waves crash against the shore, and feel the sun beat down on the skin you've kept hidden all winter. And where better to experience poetry than by nature's most poetic creation, the sea? So many authors have stared into the endless horizon, dreaming up ideas for their literary creations, finding a way to express pain, joy, loss, or hope. The sea has been the setting for countless adventures found between the pages of a book.
Everything is better experienced on a beach. Food is no exception. It is impossible to tire of fresh fruit enjoyed in it's natural habitat. The juice of a ripe pineapple quenching your thirst as you sit cross legged in the warm sand. A mango picked apart and eaten with your questionably sanitized fingers. Butter sizzling over fresh shrimp as it browns above a flame. The ocean and the land give nourishment and life to those who seek it. Which is good because swimming in the waves builds a ravenous appetite. Floating and fighting the current give your body no time to feel your hunger until it can't be ignored any more. Once on the beach you still feel the rise and fall of your weightless body in the salty water. The feeling almost draws you back in, but you have to answer your stomach's growls first.
Naps are probably the most important part of this beach summer. Ocean waves rock you to sleep like you were a child again. The heartbeat of the world mimicking the sounds of the womb. You are safe beside the infinite water, the sun and moon watch over you as you drift from consciousness. As the waves never tire of the shore, neither could you. Every second the sea is new and ancient, ever changing and ever the same. Such peace and such pleasure can be had on the beach all summer long.
