I have been given the cool task to pick the foods for my neighborhood barbecue. I rush to the asian market since most of family and neighbors are asian. I pick up the typical hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken, and ribs for the non-asian crowd and the not so adventurous people. For the asian side of the block and family I go to town. I pick up chinese pork, duck, bulgi, and korean short ribs. I grab all the marinates that make the food taste and smell great. I also pick up some flour tortillas for a fusion of mexican and korean cooking that is popular amongst the food trucks in southern california. Of course, all the kids love the hot dogs and hamburgers but as I anticipated the adults were shown a new world of taste. I make chinese pork burritos with some fatty duck mixed in with some traditional chinese vegetables and the crowd goes wild. My next masterpiece is korean short ribs and bulgi meat put into a flour tortilla and formed into a taco. I look around and see smiles on all of the people that attended the bbq. My grandmother sometimes cooked for my friends when they came over when I was a youth. I remember seeing the same happy faces back then as I saw today at the barbecue.
