Moonrise Kingdom

My favorite summer movie of all time is Moonrise Kingdom. Having been a Boy Scout all of my life, many of my summers have revolved around being outside, especially at summer camp. I loved all of it: the beauty of nature, having to make your own equipment and shelter at the stations, and most of all the swimming.

The reason why I loved Moonrise Kingdom so much was because I saw a bit of myself in Sam Shakusky. He is so curious about everything, from the way nature works to the tumultuous roller coaster of love. This is pretty much an exact description of how I've felt my entire life. Being highly introverted, I tend to spend a lot of time alone, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Nature provides a great medium for accomplishing this. However, the idea of love and monogamy has always intrigued my, much like is does Sam. He runs off when faced with adversity and I feel as if I would have done something similar. He harbors an intense emotional bond for the girl he runs off with, Suzy, and I definitely would have acted the same way. Also, the methods of communication between them is remarkable, especially when you consider that most, if not all of it had to take place in secret. I feel as if I would have run off just as he did, maybe even sooner.

If I could play a part in the movie, I would most likely be one of the campers. I feel as though it would at least be appropriate given all of the years I've spent at summer camp. I would definitely enjoy the role and would want a major part in the story. Perhaps I could have played Sam's older brother, or maybe a distant uncle who comes to visit just as Sam is about to make a life-changing decision. That would definitely add a whole new depth to the storyline.
