Why I Love the School Year

I am always excited for the school year to begin because I love my job, and I can't do it while the students are gone for the summer. Let me explain. I work for a campus ministry called The Navigators at a university in Iowa. My job, which is amazing, is to hang out with college students and try my best to relay the love of Christ to them by my words and actions every day. I get to lead some of the student leaders in Bible studies and meet with the students in them one-to-one during the week and encouraging them in their faith. IT IS AWESOME. So, while Labor Day is a nice holiday and a great excuse to have a brew or two around the fire with family, I am always happy when the holiday is over so I can go back to the campus and be with the students again!
If the holiday lasted for the entire year, I would never have the chance to relate with the students that so desperately need to know Jesus as their personal Savior. I have been blessed with an amazing opportunity to step in and intervene in students' lives at an incredibly strategic time in their lives. College is oftentimes the point in a person's life where they form the person they are going to be for the rest of their lives. if Labor Day lasted all year and the students never came back, I would never have the chance to steer them towards God and away from the worldly pleasure that will always fail to satisfy as a standalone form of happiness.
I know that many people look at campus ministry, or ministry in general, and think it is a waste of time and money. However, I personally feel called to help these students in any way I can, and this is an outstanding way to do what I have been called to do by Jesus and His Great Commission.
